Morocco advances to the final 16 of the Women's World Cup on their debut

Morocco defeated Colombia to go to the final 16 of the Women’s World Cup in a historic first participation. Colombia, on the other hand, advances as the Group H champion.

Morocco advanced to the knockout rounds after Germany’s failure to defeat South Korea, becoming the third African team in the round of 16 after Nigeria and South Africa.

Morocco’s hero was Anissa Lahmari, who scored the game-winning goal on a rebound after captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s penalty was saved.

Following a difficult opening encounter in which they were defeated 6-0 by Germany, Morocco responded with three straight victories to advance to the round of 16. They will now meet France in Adelaide.

Colombia, with two wins in their first two matches, finishes ahead of Morocco in the group rankings on goal difference. They will face Jamaica, who eliminated Brazil, in a match slated for August 8 in Melbourne.
