A man drowns in the Oda River while chasing a grasscutter

According to reports, a 40-year-old man named Kwaku Addai, alias Atta Kuma was discovered dead at Chiransa near Senfi in the Bekwai municipality of the Ashanti region after going hunting with his pals and drowning in the Oda River.

According to the area’s Unit Committee Chairman, Benjamin Amponsah, the three hunters, Kwaku Addai alias Attah Kuma, now deceased, Samuel Obinim, and Collins Agyemang, went hunting with their dogs in the jungle on Sunday morning.

“Fortunately for them, they saw one grasscutter, so they chased it with their dogs,” he recalled. “Unfortunately, the grasscutter threw itself into the Oda River, so Kwaku Addai also threw himself into the river in order to catch the animal and drowned in it.”

When his friends’ attempts to save him proved hopeless, they ran home to tell the Unit Committee Chairman, who dispatched several community members to the situation.

According to accounts, others who went to the river’s bank were likewise unable to save the drowning Kwaku Addai.

The incident was reported to authorities, and the corpse was recovered on Monday, May 8, 2023.

The corpse of the dead was recovered from the river after various rites were conducted by the community’s elders.

He is said to have left behind a wife and three children.
