Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is concerned about the popular indignation that has greeted the news of a pay hike for Members of Parliament.
Mr Bagbin stressed that MPs who undertake the majority of obligations in their respective constituencies be handsomely compensated.
Alban Bagbin, speaking at a public forum in Takoradi, Western Region, said MPs deserve more.
“Whatever is given to the one you struggled to elect, you are opposed to it. Even though every day you knock at his door to request money to pay school fees and hospital bills, donate to churches, festivals and funerals, you hate to hear that his salary is being increased, there must be a problem,” Alban Bagbin said.
MPs have long advocated for an increase in their pay, claiming that unlike public sector workers, they have not had their pay evaluated higher.
