Following the murder of a colleague, several enraged teenagers in the Ashanti Region’s Asokore Mampong Municipality stormed the Asawase Police Station.
According to information obtained by Citi News, a young guy was picked up by police officers during a sweep at a hideaway and was manhandled, resulting in his death.
In retaliation, the youth assaulted the Asawase police station, pelting stones and vandalising other properties on the premises.
The police station is now without power as a result of the metre damage.
To prevent an escalation, there is a large police presence in the vicinity.
Gideon Okai, Assembly Member for Asawase West Electoral Area, told Citi News, “The Asawase police station is opposite my house, so I heard a group of guys throwing stones into the station.” So I summoned a police patrol officer to ensure that everything was in order here. There is a lot of damage as you enter the police station. The reason for this is that they are accusing the cops of murdering their friend.”
“However, when questioned, some of the police officers here stated that it was not true, but they are accusing them, which is why they came here to retaliate by throwing so many items, gadgets and other stuff, destroying the metre and other stuff.”
