Chelsea agreed to pay AS Monaco 45 million euros (£38.57 million) for defender Axel Disasi.
The contract is being concluded, and once finalised, the 25-year-old France international will give Chelsea an additional right-sided centre-back option.
The need for defensive reinforcements emerges due to Wesley Fofana’s injury, which has put him out for several months following anterior cruciate ligament surgery. Furthermore, Benoit Badiashile is injured and will not be available until after the Premier League season begins.
Chelsea’s current centre-back alternatives are Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill, who has piqued the interest of Brighton.
Axel Disasi joined Monaco from Stade de Reims in August 2020 and has played 118 times for the Ligue 1 team since then. He has also won four caps for France, earning his full international debut in last November’s World Cup defeat to Tunisia.
Disasi will become Chelsea’s third summer acquisition, joining strikers Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku at Stamford Bridge if the transaction is finalised.
