Asante Kotoko departs Accra for Cotonou ahead of Champions League opener

Communications and Brands Manager for Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko has blamed the club's poor run of form on the numerous injuries that have hampered the progress of the team. The defending league champions have been inconsistent in the domestic top flight, currently sitting in fifth place with 39 points after 26 games. Obeng Nyarko blamed his team's struggles on injury setbacks in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM. He stated that almost every player at Kotoko has been injured at some point and that the quality of the pitches used in the league can be a factor. The team's medical staff uses taping in every game to prevent injuries, which is costly, with the team spending nearly GHC5000 on taping their players in each match.

Asante Kotoko have announced the club’s decision to depart the shores of the country to Cotonou following a decision by CAF to change the venue for their Champions League opener against RC Kadiogo.

RC Kadiogo’s Stade de Kadiogo in Ouagadougou failed to that meets the club licensing regulations of CAF, hence the decision to resort to Stade de Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast, however, renovation works at the facility have forced CAF to change the match venue.

The match is scheduled to be played on Monday before the return leg in Kumasi.
