Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh believes that the GFA is not to blame for poor pitches

Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Chairman of the Club Licencing Board, has indicated that the poor condition of football grounds in Ghana, particularly at the top-flight level, is the responsibility of football clubs rather than the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He stated this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, as the debate about the poor condition of pitches in the BetPawa Ghana Premier League continues.

The seasoned football administrator urged for greater investment to improve the dismal situation but refused to blame the GFA.

“When it comes to pitches, it’s all about investment. The GFA is not responsible for the pitches, it’s the clubs. The clubs are responsible for deciding which pitch they want to move [to]. Over the years, the Club Licensing Board has been trying to encourage clubs to maintain and improve [pitches].

You cannot tell me that there is a venue in the Premier League which has not seen any improvement since club licensing [started]. It might not be up to the standard that you see in Morocco. There is not a single venue in Ghana that has not seen any changes.”

The 2023-2024 season commences in mid-September .
