Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP], has denied any involvement in the appointment of Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach.
Hughton, 64, has agreed to a two-year contract extension as head coach of the Black Stars.
According to multiple reports, the renowned lawyer played a role in the appointment of the former Premier League manager following the departure of Otto Addo, who was named interim manager.
Mr Otchere-Darko, on the other hand, refuted the claims and insisted that the decision on Chris Hughton was made by the Ghana Football Association [GFA].

He also mentioned his friendship with Chris Hughton, explaining that despite their support for opposing clubs in England, they are good friends.
“The Ghana Football Association, not me, brought Chris Hughton.” Chris and I have known each other for a long time. He supports Tottenham, while I support Arsenal. President is a Tottenham Hotspur fan, while I am an Arsenal fan, but we are good friends. “These things happen because God works in mysterious ways by bringing together strange people,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“Chris was chosen by the GFA, and I believe it was a wise decision.” People lobby whenever there is a vacancy, and at the time, most people thought he deserved the job. “GFA also required someone familiar with the team,” he added.
The former Brighton and Newcastle United manager took charge of the Black Stars last month, winning his first game against Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier before drawing the return game in Luanda 1-1.
Chris Hughton will lead the side in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, hoping to break the country’s 41-year trophy drought.
