Huma Abedin was born on July 28, 1976, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the United States. Her parents are Syed Zainul and Saleha Mahmood Abedin. Huma was raised with two siblings, a brother and a sister. She relocated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with her family when she was two years old.

Huma interned at the White House while studying at George Washington University. She was assigned to then-First Lady Hillary Clinton at the time.
