Dr Charles Nyaaba, Executive Director of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, has highlighted that high production costs are a key concern for farmers in Ghana.
According to him, stakeholders have not seen big policy initiatives by the government to cut manufacturing costs.
Dr Nyaaba stated that farmers are now battling for inputs such as fertilisers and hence urges the government to take action.
Speaking on TV3 before of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s mid-year budget announcement on Monday, July 31, he stated, “Put in measures to improve local production.”
He added, “We haven’t seen any major intervention by the government to address the increasing cost of food production.”
“One of the issues we are lamenting is the high cost of production, he added.
The mid-year budget presentation is likely to emphasise the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) $3 billion plan as well as other initiatives implemented by the government to address economic issues.
