Candidates for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who participate in dirty campaigns will face consequences.
According to the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, this is to guarantee that the opposition does not get missiles before the 2024 general election.
He warned that the punishment may be harsh, including excluding hopefuls from voting in the flagbearership election.
The NPP Council of Elders Chairman made the remark on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, as the party gears up for its super delegates convention on August 26, 2023.
The presidential hopefuls are vying for votes ahead of the important poll to cut the number of aspirants from ten to five.
Some overly zealous supporters prefer to cast insults at their opponents in their effort to attract delegates for their votes.
Despite the fact that the candidates have been very cautious in their statements, some of their followers are making it very tough for them.
Mr Owusu Agyemang, on the other hand, believes it is in the presidential candidates’ best interests to bring their followers to order.
Failure to do so, he claims, will end their hope of being the NPP’s flagbearer ahead of the 2024 elections.
The Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders emphasised the need for a clean campaign to guarantee a unified front in their bid to hold the seat.
Mr Owusu Agyemang promised hopefuls of a level playing field before, during, and after the November 4, 2023 elections for a free and fair national delegates congress.
