Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Chairman of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Unlawful Mining (IMCIM), is inviting God’s wrath on those involved in unlawful mining and accompanying environmental harm.
During a breakfast meeting to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Kumasi Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, the former Minister for Environment Science and Technology stated that God will deal with all those involved in unlawful mining activities.
He decried the irresponsibility with which some people are depleting the environment, claiming that God despises such behaviour.
“We are supposed to be caretakers of these things, but we are messing them up, and we think we are smart and God is not happy with us.”
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng went on to say that people who are depleting the environment would face God’s wrath and indignation, citing Revelations 11:18.
“The nations are angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for you to punish the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and saints who revere your name and to punish those who destroy the earth.”
In April, the former Chairman of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining caused a public uproar when a report he authored became public, accusing several New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials at the Jubilee House of actively participating in illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s signed 37-page study revealed that certain NPP bigwigs hired Chinese nationals to engage in galamsey on their behalf.
According to the study, an NPP MP from the Ashanti Region exploited his position on the Minerals Commission to secure hundreds of large-scale concessions in his region, reportedly for community mining reasons.
According to the article, he ended up selling these concessions to private persons, including party members, for 200,000 cedis each.
