On Saturday afternoon, a police dispatch rider was taken to the hospital after colliding with a salon car on the Anloga-Junction section of the Kumasi Airport route.
When the dispatch rider, who was accompanying a VIP car, attempted to circumvent traffic by utilising the other lane, the event occurred.
Despite indicating for the incoming vehicles to slow down, the motorcade crashed head-on with the vehicle with the licence plate AS-1142-16, forcing the police dispatch rider to collapse in the middle of the road.
According to witnesses, the police officer was injured, but the passengers in the salon car were unscathed.
The dispatch rider resorted to utilising the opposite lane to negotiate traffic on the Aboabo Airport route, according to an eyewitness who identified himself as Bismarck.
Despite the event, the van carrying the VIPs continued its route.
The crash exacerbated traffic gridlock on the route, forcing cars to wait over an hour for police personnel to clear the road.
Later, a police towing truck arrived to transport the damaged automobiles to the Airport police station.
