Pregnant lady dies after slipping down into an incomplete drain at Kasoa

A pregnant lady died after slipping into an abandoned unfinished drain at Kasoa Opeikuma in the Central Region’s Awutu Senya East District.

Amina Issifu, who was eight months pregnant at the time, collapsed while attempting to cross the gutter to her house.

She was brought to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to Nana Opei Mensah II, Chief of Awutu Opeikuma, the Kasoa Opeikuma-Awutu Aprah road, which was started in 2019, has been abandoned by the contractor because of budgetary restrictions.

He went on to say that the road’s condition is horrible and that the constant rain hasn’t helped matters.

Nana Opei Mensah II urged Mavis Hawa Koomson, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, and President Nana Akufo-Addo to repair the abandoned road in order to save lives.

Meanwhile, some irate neighbours and motorists on the road stated that the potholes are the size of manholes.

Furthermore, Havis Hawa Koomson, MP for Awutu Senya East Constituency, stated that preparations are in the works to terminate the contract and transfer over the construction to a more qualified contractor.

She further stated that the contractors failed to reach the timeframe set for him.
