Ghana’s Black Princesses were too hot for their Benin counterparts in the first game of the WAFU B U-20 Girls competition, which is currently taking place in Kumasi.
Mafia Nyame of Faith Ladies scored Ghana’s first goal in the 35th minute before the game was called off.
The Princesses continued their strong play in the second half of the game.
Basigi’s team continued to attack and came within a goal in the 58th minute when Helen Alormenu headed over from a lovely ball from Wasima Mohammed.
The ladies’ constant attack paid off when Ampem Darkoa’s Mary Amponsah increased Ghana’s tally in the 61st minute before Dreams Ladies Skipper Stella Nyamekye closed it up with a spectacular free kick in the 68th minute.
Nyamekye was named “Player of the Match” after playing an important part in Ghana’s stunning victory over Benin at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Yusif Basigi’s team now only needs a draw against the Ivory Coast in their next match on May 27th to go to the next round of the tournament.
Ghana will host the inaugural WAFU B U-20 Girls tournament in Kumasi from Saturday, May 20 through Saturday, June 3, 2023.
