A speeding wood truck driving without headlights crashed with a car on the Kofi Nimo to Ayirebi Road in the Eastern Region, killing a breastfeeding mother and her five-month-old infant.
In addition to this heartbreaking loss, seven other people suffered serious injuries.
The collision happened on Wednesday, October 31, 2023, at 7:30 p.m., when a forestry truck with registration number WR 7522-C laden with logs and lacking functional headlights collided with a Toyota minivan with registration number AS 5951-17.
Survivors of the crash said the minivan had been parked by the wayside so that some passengers could pee in the bush.
However, the lumber truck, which was travelling without headlights, collided with the minivan.
This tragic incident resulted in the instant death of the nursing mother and her newborn, as well as major injuries to the seven other passengers on board.
The injured are being treated at the Oda Government Hospital, while the corpses of the deceased have been put at the mortuary for preservation and identification.
