Mr Ben Ehpson, pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper has indicated that former Trade Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Mr John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has lost significance in the Ghanaian political sphere.
Alan Kyerematen, according to Mr Ben Ephson, is failing to win the NPP presidential primary because he has lost his much-loved presence in the political landscape.
He adds that following the NPP presidential primaries in 2007, he persuaded Mr. Alan Kyerematen to run for legislative elections in order to retain his political standing, but Alan declined.
“I knew Alan before 2007 and after he lost to Akufo-Addo I told him that if you want to have a future as the flagbearer of the party go to parliament”, Ben Ephson said this on Hello FM in an interview.
“I told him that not being in Parliament, there is a disconnect with the party’s base but he refused to listen”, he added.
John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen finished third in the NPP’s just-concluded super delegate conference.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) super delegates meeting over the weekend with 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.
Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong came in second place with 132 votes, or 14.30%, while Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen came in third place with 95 votes, or 10.29%.
The party’s delegates conference to pick its flagbearer is scheduled on November 4, 2023.
