Coach Chris Hughton praised Inaki Williams after the striker scored his first goal for the Black Stars on Friday, clinching a 1-0 victory over Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium as Ghana began their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on a bright note.

Hughton had this to say about Williams, “Iñaki is a good professional. If I tell him to play in central midfield or right back, he will play there. But he is a number nine. That is his main strength.”

Williams’ final goal not only represented a personal milestone for the striker, but it also helped Ghana secure an important victory.

Hughton underlined the significance of winning the upcoming game against Comoros in Moroni, adding, “The importance of the win is massive. We would have loved to have done it more comfortably in the first half, but that’s football. All you look is to get some momentum from this. We all hope that the momentum from the second half will be taken into Comoros.”

The Black Stars hope to finish first in their group, which also includes Mali, Chad, and the Central African Republic, in order to qualify for the World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
