Raphael Dwamena, a Ghanaian football player, died last week in Albania and his remains landed in Ghana on Friday evening.
On November 11, 2023, the 28-year-old striker collapsed during a league match between his team, Egnatia FC, and Partizani Tirana.
Soon after, he was pronounced dead.
Dwamena’s body arrived in Accra late Friday night at the Kotoka International Airport.
The player had a history of cardiac difficulties, having had three heart failures in the years preceding his death.
A minute of silence was observed before Ghana’s 1-0 friendly triumph against Madagascar on Friday as a gesture of respect for Dwamena.
Dwamena was a gifted footballer who represented Ghana at the senior international level.
On June 11, 2017, he made his international debut for Ghana’s Black Stars against Ethiopia, scoring a brace.
He went on to appear in nine games for the men’s senior national team.
