Jonina's goalie was shown the exit door to have an early shower after clashing with another player, forcing her to watch the game from the stands, in the first four minutes of the game. Berry Ladies controlled the first few minutes of the game due to their numerical advantage versus Jonina, who fought valiantly to keep the game alive.

A goal in the 31st minute by Felicity Asante was enough for Jonina Football Academy to give their bitterest rivals Berry Ladies a showdown in the ongoing Women’s FA Cup, to show Berry Ladies the exit in the round of 64 in their backyard at the Madina Astroturf.

Jonina’s goalie was shown the exit door to have an early shower after clashing with another player, forcing her to watch the game from the stands, in the first four minutes of the game. Jonina coach Charles Dushie designed a fresh game strategy to keep the Berry Ladies at bay. Berry Ladies controlled the first few minutes of the game due to their numerical advantage versus Jonina, who fought valiantly to keep the game alive.

With a tempting cross from Sandra Atinga at the edge of the 18-yard box, Eunice Kpenteny had a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the 17th minute. Kpanteny’s contact with the ball caused her to lose her balance, and her opponent’s goalkeeper, Grace Krofi, to calmly collect the ball. In the 22nd minute, substitute goalkeeper Osman Huzeimah made a spectacular save that drew a standing ovation from the home crowd. Jonina arrived at the party after stealing a pass with Matilda Fodu to steal the show in midfield as her brilliant pass and dribbling precision caused her opponent to lose the midfield fight.

The game’s biggest opportunity came in the 31st minute, when the away team’s captain, Godsword Hanson Nortey, collected a ball from Angela Asantewaa from the back and found Eunice Kpenteey in the box. A left-footed cross from Kpenteey into the box across the face of the goal post, as Felicity Asante wrestled her leg into the ball and into the post to make it 1 nil in the first half.

The game appeared more heated after the interval, as both teams started well. The home team was more eager for a goal and missed many scoring chances, but Jonina was more patient in the defence and midfield. Both sides had a few chances in the second half, but Jonina picked up their pieces in the 70th minute and controlled the whole 20th minute of the game. Their opponents, on the other hand, were simply following their opponent’s shadows and making it appear as if it were 11 versus 11.

However, Jonina has qualified for the round of 32 for the first time in the club’s history, and in the rivalry between the two teams, Jonina becomes the first team to beat Berry Ladies in their home stadium and be the first to eliminate Berry Ladies in the FA Cup in the first round.

Asante Kotoko SC has officially terminated Abdul Fatawu Safiu's contract due to medical reasons.

A club statement by Asante Kotoko on Monday evening indicates that Abdul Fatawu Safiu’s contract has been terminated due to medical reasons.

According to the Kumasi-based royal club, the former Al-Sinaa SC striker failed a mandatory medical assessment test as required by the Ghana Football Association, following the announcement of his signing on the registration deadline day.

The returnee striker who joined Kotoko from Eleven Wonders in November 2018, ahead of the 2018–19 CAF Confederation Cup campaign has been duly informed about the health-related issues which could rule him out for a long period.

Below is a full statement by Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko can confirm that it has relieved forward, Abdul Fatawu Safiu due to medical reasons.

Asante Kotoko entered into an employment contract with the player in order to meet registration deadlines as announced by the Ghana Football Association, and had to ensure that the player undergoes the pre-competition medical assessment which is the basic and compulsory requirement by the GFA.

This medical assessment was duly done awaiting further tests. The further assessment by the club’s medical team revealed other health related issues which could rule him out for a long period. The club, after being informed about the situation, concluded that continuing an employment contract with the player would not be of full benefit to both parties – the club and the player. Details of the specific medical condition have been clearly communicated to the player.

It is imperative to note that the GFA has rejected his registration, so keeping him would not be in the best interest of the club and the player, hence the decision to end the relationship.

The club wishes Abdul Fatawu Safiu the very best for the future and wish to assure him that he forever remains one of us, and he is welcome to serve in any capacity in the future.

Signed….
