GOC sends best wishes to the Black Meteors ahead of U-23 AFCON

In a press statement dated June 23, 2023, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) sent their best wishes to the Black Meteors of Ghana ahead of the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The U-23 AFCON is the last qualification tournament for a spot in men’s football at the Olympic Games.

Ghana is attempting to make their first appearance in men’s football since 2004.

The President of the GOC, Ben Nunoo Mensah, stated in the statement that he is fully behind the squad in their goal to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“On behalf of the Board, Executives and Sports Federation Heads, I wish you all the luck to break the jinx that has denied football an appearance in almost two decades”.

The Black Meteors are in Group A, along with Morocco, Congo, and Guinea. On Sunday, June 25, 2023, the squad will kick off their campaign against Congo.

The tournament’s finals and third-place playoff winner will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympic men’s football tournament in Paris, while the fourth-placed team will compete in the AFC—CAF playoff for the last Olympic spot.
