I never doubted her ability to accomplish this task – Kofi Aduonum, Afua Asantewaa’s husband

Kofi emphasised his faith in his wife's talents, saying he never doubted her ability to accomplish this achievement. "I know she is a tough personality, a tough character, so I didn't doubt a bit," he told television station TV3.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s husband, sports journalist Kofi Aduonum, is not astonished that his wife is on course to set the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.

He has supported her at Akwaaba Village for the past five days and is quite happy about her improvement.

The current record holder is Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours in 2012. However, Afua has already broken that mark and hopes to reach 115 hours to create a new record.

Kofi emphasised his faith in his wife’s talents, saying he never doubted her ability to accomplish this achievement. “I know she is a tough personality, a tough character, so I didn’t doubt a bit,” he told television station TV3.

Support for Afua has been tremendous, with letters of encouragement from important personalities including Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and former President John Mahama. Several singers, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Kuami Eugene, have also shown their support by visiting Akwaaba Village.

Kofi expressed his thanks to everyone who has helped Afua along the way. “The outpouring of love has been overwhelming from the outset. “I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians,” he remarked.

As Afua continued to sing her way into history, Kofi provided words of comfort, using a scriptural phrase: “The horse is ready for battle, but victory is in the hands of the Lord.”

Guinness World Records has disqualified Ghanaian event organiser Afua Asantewaa, who was attempting to set a new record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The evidence check had already begun when Afua requested expedited service, so they reimbursed her purchase earlier this month, according to Guinness World Records.

In a tweet on Friday, February 23, the official answer read: “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was unsuccessful, but we hope she will try again soon.” We’ve seen how inspiring it has been for her followers. The evidence check had already begun when Afua requested expedited service, therefore we reimbursed her purchase earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of success in his future record efforts.

Others include Nana Yaw Manteaw, Yaa Pokua Baiden, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA), Festus Frimpong Gyebi, Eric Owusu Akreso, Dr. Ackah Kwame Nyameke, and Radia Adama Saani. With growing expectations from stakeholders in the cultural and creative sectors, this group would have to create goods that benefit the sector. Already, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to provide internet outlets for Ghanaian musicians if elected President. On February 7, 2024, he spoke at the University of Professional Studies in Accra on 'Ghana's Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future'.

Some of the personalities picked to draw up provisions for the New Patriotic Party’s platform include Ghanaian artist Okyeame Kwame and actor Prince David Osei.

They are members of the party’s tourism, arts, and culture sub-committee, which is led by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), and Akwasi Agyemang, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Other members include Catherine Abelema Afeku, former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture; Dr Ama Boafo-Arthur; Prof. Issahatu Adam; and Claudia Lumor, creator of the Glitz Style Awards.

Already, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to provide internet outlets for Ghanaian musicians if elected President.

On February 7, 2024, he spoke at the University of Professional Studies in Accra on ‘Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future’.

“We will introduce other initiatives such as digital and streaming platforms for our artists to make tourism and the creative arts a growth pole in Ghana,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2020 Manifesto for the Creative Industry made a similar commitment.

“We will build a digital platform for artists to make their products available to the global market,” the National People’s Party (NPP) said.

During his speech, Dr Bawumia vowed to expand on the Year of Return with Beyond the Return, which will take place in December in Ghana.

He went on to discuss reducing the tax burden on creatives.

“Tax incentives will also be provided for film producers and musicians,” he said.

Finally, Dr Bawumia, Ghana’s current Vice President, stated that “to boost tourism and job creation, my government will implement an e-visa policy for all international visitors to Ghana to enable visas to be obtained in minutes subject to security and criminal checks.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under fire from players in the creative industry for failing to deliver on certain pledges.

Some of the NPP’s unmet pledges include the establishment of the Creative Arts Fund to assist artists and the construction of theatres in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.

The NPP also pledged that “given that our artistes do not have the capital to set up studios, we will, as part of the entrepreneurial hub’s strategy, establish large recording studios in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, and Takoradi, in collaboration with the private sector.” Recording artists can hire space in these studios to complete their tracks.” That promise has likewise gone unfulfilled.

Finally, the development of a conference and exposition facility at the Ghana Trade Fair Company’s property in La is still ongoing.
