Kelly grew up in Queens, New York, in a neighbourhood named Far Rockaway. Because her parents attended church, they chose to include her in the church singing group while she was only a toddler. Kelly’s early exposure to singing would lead to a lifelong interest in music.
Personal Life
Kelly Price was in a relationship with her former manager, Jeffrey Rolle. They had been together for nearly 25 years until deciding to split up in 2016. They have two children from their marriage. She recently stated that she is currently engaged to a man, but she has not shared any specifics about him with the public.
Kelly has been involved in a number of legal matters over the years. One case in 2018 harmed her reputation after a firm named Sang Girl Productions gave her a $25,000 advance to do a fundraiser for a non-profit. She did not, however, attend the event and did not return the advance.
Career
Kelly received her first professional performance at the age of 19 when she played with George Michael in Madison Square Garden in 1992. Mariah Carey had heard her singing in the adjacent room while attending the Grammy Awards the same year.
She liked Kelly’s voice and brought her to Carey’s husband, who was the head of Sony Columbia. Kelly then found work as a backup vocalist for Carey and stayed with her for 5 years.
During this time, she was able to obtain multiple credits for several highly popular songs, including Mariah Carey’s blockbuster single Fantasy. In addition, she has contributed to Mo Money Mo Problems and Heartbreak Hotel.
Kelly Price believed that she was not living up to her full potential throughout the years, so she chose to pursue her singing career by signing with Island Records. Kelly returned to her religious roots and began to focus on gospel music, releasing her debut gospel album, This is Who I Am, in 2006. This was a major smash, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Charts.
She also co-founded The Queen Project with Deborah Cox and Tamia, who wanted to empower women of all ages and backgrounds by participating in various community service projects.
