Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has threatened to stop teacher licensure tests if re-elected.
He feels the teacher certification programme is superfluous and should not have been implemented because instructors already take similar tests at every step of their training, in his opinion.
“This is unnecessary,” the former president said while speaking in Wenchi in the Bono Region as part of his Building Ghana Tour. We will eliminate the licencing tests in our future administration.”
This is not Mr Mahama’s first time making such a commitment.
Mahama pledged to remove the tests in his 2020 platform, claiming that they prevent skilled teachers from working for the government.
“We will abolish the obnoxious licensure exams for teacher trainees and restore the automatic employment of teacher trainee graduates. Let me state unequivocally that no teacher trainee graduate will be denied posting or employment under the next Mahama government.”
