Mohammed Salisu has completed his transfer to AS Monaco

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has completed his much-anticipated move to AS Monaco after both teams agreed to a reported €15 million agreement earlier this week.

The 24-year-old centre-back signed a five-year contract after passing a medical.

“AS Monaco are delighted to announce the arrival of central defender Mohammed Salisu from Southampton Football Club. The 24-year-old Ghana international has signed a 5-season deal and is now tied to the Principality club until June 2028,” Monaco announced.

Fulham had been interested in the Ghanaian defender, but the anticipated £15 million transfer fell through, allowing AS Monaco to rekindle their chase and capture his services for the forthcoming season.

“We would like to wish Mohammed well for the future and thank him for his contribution,” Southampton said in a statement.

Salisu has one year left on his Southampton contract and was not included to the team for the club’s recent pre-season matches. His last appearance for the south coast club came in March, and he was dropped at the conclusion of last season owing to worries about his commitment.

He joined Southampton for £10.9 million and has already left following a three-year stint. Salisu made a total of 80 appearances in all competitions during his stint at the club.

After Southampton’s relegation to the Championship, Monaco’s pursuit of Salisu intensified, making the transfer a logical step in the player’s career growth.
