Head of Communications for Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has waded into the conversation of player exodus in Ghana which has over the years contributed to the low patronage of the leagues in the country.
Whiles, reacting to the question during an interview on Angel TV’s Abomu Sports with Esther Abankwa, Henry mentioned that player exodus can’t be eradicated. However, the focus should be on who replaces those players after they leave the shores of the country to seek greener pasture.
Mr Asante further explained that one policy the football governing body introduced last season was for all clubs to register 10 juvenile players in addition to 30 first-team players to make a total of 40 players.
”As part of the club licenses regime, every club should have a feeder club, and it is mandatory.
”Is problematic in our geographical spot because of the clubs’ finances so in another country juvenile players (are allowed to) play the league.
”It is unfortunate some of these players are gone, but is also good for our league.
”Regardless, it also signals that we have proficient players in our league, so it is up to us to make our league attractive”. He added,
Nonetheless, countless Ghanaian players leave the shores of the country because our local clubs have failed to meet the demand of these adept players which makes our domestic more attractive.
Meanwhile, Mudasiru Salifu, Yaw Annor, and Ibrahim Moro have been snatched from the top-flight domestic league which weakens the clubs that qualify to compete in the CAF interclub competitions.
