According to local media rumours, former Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Nartey Ogum may be returning to the club for a second term.
Ogum, who formerly led WAFA, was instrumental in bringing the porcupine warriors to the Ghana Premier League title two seasons ago. Despite having signed a two-year deal, he was unceremoniously fired owing to issues with the then-management.
Following Ogum’s resignation, the coaching job was taken by Seydou Zerbo, a relatively unknown Burkinabe coach who was eventually fired midway through the previous season due to poor performance, notably following a loss to eventual league winners, Medeama SC.
According to a report from Kumasi-based Nyhira FM, while not being the official coach, Prosper Ogum is now involved in player recruiting for Asante Kotoko. This has fueled suspicion that management is considering reintroducing him to the team.
Asante Kotoko’s performance in the 2022/23 football season was underwhelming, with the club failing to win any major honours. since a result, Manhyia has disbanded the 12-member board, chaired by Dr. Kwame Kyei, and the management, led by Nana Yaw Amponsah, since their mandate has expired.
A new board of directors and management team are likely to be announced before the start of the 2023/24 season, which is set to begin in September. Asante Kotoko will hope to recover and make a great comeback under the prospective supervision of Prosper Nartey Ogum, should he return to the club for the second time.
