Maurice Steijn, the head coach of Ajax, is keen to persuade Mohammed Kudus to stay at the club for another year, despite increased interest from rival clubs.
Recognising the valued midfielder’s extraordinary skill, Steijn emphasises Kudus’s critical position in the Dutch footballing giant and believes that if he remains another year, major teams will come knocking.
“He has exceptional qualities. I hope he stays, he is perhaps our best player at the moment. If he stays, it would also give the rest a huge boost”, Steijn said to VI on Saturday.
“I have the feeling that if he stays for another year, the real top will come for him. Now it is just a bit below that. He would very much like to make a transfer himself. He has also indicated this to the management.”
“If we win the league and he scores 20 goals, clubs will pay double for him. This is what we are trying to tell him now”
Mohammed Kudus, who will join Ajax on July 16, 2020, had a strong season last year, appearing in 30 games, scoring 11 goals and contributing three assists.
However, his outstanding performances have piqued the curiosity of other teams, with rumours claiming that Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Brighton are all interested in signing the talented midfielder.
