A Prempeh College fan goes to court to stop the 2023 NSMQ Grand Finale

The affidavit is not available to the media or the general public. However, during the semifinal stage battle in which Opoku Ware School defeated Prempeh College, Prempeh College and Primetime Limited disagreed over a mystery for which clues pointed to the linear superposition principle. In response to the school's petition, Primetime Limited stated that the Quiz Mistress, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, exercises discretion on whether an answer provided by a contestant is sufficiently responsive and would have accepted the answer provided by the Prempeh College contestants if, in her professional opinion, the target key and the answer provided by the contestants were the same.

An individual claiming to be a fan of Prempeh College has applied to a High Court for an interlocutory order to prohibit Primetime Limited from holding the grand finale of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) as planned.

The final competition will take place on October 30 at Accra’s National Theatre.

In a writ obtained by 3news.com, the plaintiff, whose name is presently unknown and who is represented by Kwame Boateng Atuahene, Esp, requests that the finale be postponed until the “final determination of the matter in terms of the affidavit in support.”

Prempeh College and the NSMQ final injunction

The affidavit is not available to the media or the general public. However, during the semifinal stage battle in which Opoku Ware School defeated Prempeh College, Prempeh College and Primetime Limited disagreed over a mystery for which clues pointed to the linear superposition principle.

In response to the school’s petition, Primetime Limited stated that the Quiz Mistress, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, exercises discretion on whether an answer provided by a contestant is sufficiently responsive and would have accepted the answer provided by the Prempeh College contestants if, in her professional opinion, the target key and the answer provided by the contestants were the same.

The statement, signed by Nana Mensa-Bonsu, Managing Director of Primetime Limited, stated that Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann did not in this situation, preferring to keep the more exact original key.

In reaction to Primetime Limited’s comment, Prempeh College reiterated its conviction that its contestant’s solution was correct. They clarified that they did not agree with the NSMQ’s consultant at the initial discussion at the contest venue.

“Given that we may have reached an impasse we request that an independent consultant or body be engaged to bring finality to this matter since one cannot be a judge in his own matter. We are resolute in our minds that our answer is correct, and we will take all available steps and means including legal, if necessary, to ensure that Prempeh College and its contestants are given a fair hearing,” the school’s statement added.
