Alan Kyerematen to kick off Greater Accra regional tour on Tuesday

Alan Kyerematen, former Trades and Industry Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate has announced preparations to begin touring in the Greater Accra region on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Mr Kyerematen highlighted his creative approach to constituency visits after being vetted by the Prof. Mike Oquaye-led vetting Committee in Accra.

He aims to cluster constituencies, bringing party executives together not just inside their own constituency, but also among other constituencies within the cluster, according to him.

This approach attempts to energise the party’s ranks and build solidarity among members and officials, with the ultimate objective of winning the general elections in 2024.

“From tomorrow, I will start my constituency tours in Greater Accra. I have decided that I will introduce innovation into my constituency tours by clustering constituencies for the purposes of bringing our party executives together not just within their own constituencies but a few other constituencies in the cluster that will help energise the rank and file of our party,” he stated.

The Committee’s vetting procedure is slated to review 10 people from Monday, July 3 through Thursday, July 6.

Following the vetting, a special delegates conference with 900 delegates will be held to reduce the number of candidates to five, assuming that the committee approves more than five of the 10 candidates to run in the election.

Kwadwo Poku, Alan Kyerematen, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are scheduled to be vetted today.

Meanwhile, Kwadwo Poku believes he will be among the first five candidates to attend the superdelegates summit.

Before going before the committee, the businessman expressed confidence that he would receive committee approval and make it through the special delegates’ meeting.

“I hope to make an impression on the vetting committee. The vetting committee is supposed to assess your ability to be fit for president of this nation and to lead the party I think I fit the criteria and qualify and fit more than 100 per cent so it is not an issue of qualification which we qualify,” he stated.

Mr Poku stated that anybody who chose and filed the applications is eligible, thus he is confident that none of the ten would be rejected.

“Anybody who picked and submitted the form qualifies, it would have to be up to the vetting committee what sort of questions they would ask and seek clarifications. But I don’t really expect that any of the 10 people who picked and submitted their forms will be disqualified,” he said.

"My late MCE did nothing to earn his dismissal; the only error he made was to back me, and I lost the primaries. "How can someone who been named the number one MCE at the national and regional levels be fired? He got various honours for his efforts as MCE. He was replaced without consulting me," she allegedly told Accra-based Onua TV/FM while visiting the grieving family to express her condolences.

Tina Ayele Mensah, a Weija-Gbawe Member of Parliament (MP), has conveyed her condolences on the tragic death of Patrick Kumor, the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Madam Mensah has ascribed Mr Kumor’s death to his removal from government in February 2024, which she says was not the wisest decision.

The MP said that the dead backed her re-election in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

“My late MCE did nothing to earn his dismissal; the only error he made was to back me, and I lost the primaries.

“How can someone who has been named the number one MCE at the national and regional levels be fired? He got various honours for his efforts as MCE. He was replaced without consulting me,” she allegedly told Accra-based Onua TV/FM while visiting the grieving family to express her condolences.

According to the member, Mr Kumor was unable to endure the news and recover from the shock.

“Patrick isn’t as powerful as me. I don’t mind if you fire me; but, Patrick is not like me. Patrick couldn’t stop thinking about his bag, and his blood pressure continued to rise. “‘Afei se asa’ (it is finished), Patrick is gone,” she stated.

“I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for persons with disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more. We are giving scholarships to every person but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit,” he stated.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to giving free tertiary education to all those with disabilities who attend university in Ghana.

He made this known during a meeting with clerics in the Western North Region as part of his continuing national trip.

Dr. Bawumia stated that, while scholarships are intended to benefit all people, his administration will emphasise scholarships for those with disabilities.

The NPP flagbearer stated that the scholarship will cover both academic and residential tuition for all people with disabilities beginning in 2025.

Aduomi denied these allegations, stating that he still enjoys the backing of NDC supporters. In an interview with Citi News, Mr Ntim voiced concern over two candidates from the same party running against each other.

Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to reconcile independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi into the party.

Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, chose to run as an Independent Candidate in the Ejisu by-election because he believes the NPP has failed to address critical concerns about the existing delegates’ list, jeopardising the party’s integrity and fairness.

Some NPP members accused him of treason, claiming he deserted to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Aduomi denied these allegations, stating that he still enjoys the backing of NDC supporters.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr Ntim voiced concern over two candidates from the same party running against each other.

“Yes, it is worrying because the two main competitors, Aduomi and Kwabena Boateng belong to the same fold, family. We should not be looking at jubilating, I’m not jubilating. My focus now is on how to bring the Aduomi factor back to the fold, bringing him back to the family.

“So that in December when we are going to face the real political opponents, we are going us a unified NPP front. It shouldn’t be difficult at all. Whatever it is, we are going to reach out. As a national chairman, I’m promising you, we will take up the mantle and reach out to him.”
