I’m ready to serve Kotoko in any capacity – Amos Frimpong

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong has spoken out about taking on a position at the club if its life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, calls on him.

He said this after the Otumfuo appointed an Interim administration Committee following the dismissal of the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led administration and Board after their three-year term expired.

The club’s Board of Directors, which is now defunct, was formed in 2020 with billionaire Dr Kwame Kyei as Chair and Jude Arthur as Vice Chair.

Other members of the Board were Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Kofi Amoah Abban, MD of RigWorld Oil Group, Martin Osei Brown, CEO of Joshob Construction Company, Nana Ankobeahene of Asanteman – Baffour Kwame Kusi, Alhaji Lamin, and Joseph Yaw Adu.

Despite being packed with clever and experienced brains, its incapacity to manage disagreements restricted its progress.

Conflicts between the Board Chair, Dr Kwame Kyei, and the CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, have been a recurring feature over the last three years.

Unfazed by the previous turmoil between the disbanded Board and management team, Amos Frimpong aspires to give it a shot if the opportunity arises.

He stated that, while he has not yet retired, he is willing to serve the porcupine family in whatever way.

The 31-year-old right defender, who currently plays for Guinean side Club Industriel de Kamsar, praised the new ICM, which includes the return of Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Frimpong stated in an interview with Citi Sports that if called upon, he would not hesitate.

“At the moment I am still active, I haven’t given up on football.”

“Any position I will be given, I will not hesitate to come and share my experience, if I am called upon to come and help the club.”

Amos Frimpong has urged the club’s supporters to come out and support the squad throughout the forthcoming season.

He believes that supporters play an important role in the team’s success, citing the low turnout at the club’s home stadiums in the latter half of the season.

“With the new appointment, I am sure things are going to be difficult at the club, but I believe if the supporters rally their support behind the club and give the players the needed support, the club can perform well and win some trophies.”

“With the little experience, I gathered from my time at the club, in the seasons where we have the full support of the club, we tend to perform well. But If it is otherwise, the season becomes difficult.”

“This coming season, I am pleading with the supporters of the club to support the club really well, because without them, the club does not function well.”

Kotoko will open the 2023/24 league season at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against the newly promoted Heart of Lions before travelling to Bibiani to play Gold Stars in the second week.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, who led the Porcupines to their 24th Premier League title in his debut season, will be trying to emulate that form in his second appearance.

The season 2023/24 of the Premier League begins on September 15, 2023.

Asante Kotoko SC has officially terminated Abdul Fatawu Safiu's contract due to medical reasons.

A club statement by Asante Kotoko on Monday evening indicates that Abdul Fatawu Safiu’s contract has been terminated due to medical reasons.

According to the Kumasi-based royal club, the former Al-Sinaa SC striker failed a mandatory medical assessment test as required by the Ghana Football Association, following the announcement of his signing on the registration deadline day.

The returnee striker who joined Kotoko from Eleven Wonders in November 2018, ahead of the 2018–19 CAF Confederation Cup campaign has been duly informed about the health-related issues which could rule him out for a long period.

Below is a full statement by Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko can confirm that it has relieved forward, Abdul Fatawu Safiu due to medical reasons.

Asante Kotoko entered into an employment contract with the player in order to meet registration deadlines as announced by the Ghana Football Association, and had to ensure that the player undergoes the pre-competition medical assessment which is the basic and compulsory requirement by the GFA.

This medical assessment was duly done awaiting further tests. The further assessment by the club’s medical team revealed other health related issues which could rule him out for a long period. The club, after being informed about the situation, concluded that continuing an employment contract with the player would not be of full benefit to both parties – the club and the player. Details of the specific medical condition have been clearly communicated to the player.

It is imperative to note that the GFA has rejected his registration, so keeping him would not be in the best interest of the club and the player, hence the decision to end the relationship.

The club wishes Abdul Fatawu Safiu the very best for the future and wish to assure him that he forever remains one of us, and he is welcome to serve in any capacity in the future.

Signed….
