Ghana star Mohammed Kudus to sign a five-year contract with Brighton

Brighton and Mohammed Kudus have successfully agreed to a five-year contract extension until June 2028, with the option of an extra year until 2029.

Brighton will supply Ajax with €40 million, plus add-ons, under the conditions of this agreement.

The next step is for Kudus to go through a medical assessment, which is planned to take place within the next 48 hours.

Brighton’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has impacted the decision to seek this move, identifying Kudus as a key target.

However, Chelsea, another Premier League team, recently contacted Ajax to express their interest in Kudus.

Although Kudus is under contract with Ajax until 2025, he turned down a one-year extension in April and has shown a strong desire to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Since joining Amsterdam from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland three seasons ago, the 22-year-old has scored 16 goals in 63 Eredivisie games. He has also scored seven goals in 24 appearances for Ghana, including two in the 3-2 group-stage victory over South Korea at the 2022 World Cup.

Kudus has demonstrated his flexibility during his time in Dutch football, playing in as many as seven different positions. He has skillfully moved from a deep-lying No. 6 to an out-and-out center-forward, spending a large amount of time on the right flank, frequently attacking opposition full-backs.
