GWCL metre thief sentenced to 15 months in prison

The offender was detained by police in Community 11 on December 24, 2023, for stealing the water metre and was arraigned on January 4, 2024, at the TDC Magistrate Court presided over by Benedicta Antwi. Afful pled guilty to the two counts brought against him and was subsequently convicted. On count one, the offender received a 12-month term, and on count two, he received a three-month sentence. He also received a GHc10,000 fine. In default, he will serve an extra four months in prison. All of the sentences must run at the same time.

A 33-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 15 months in prison for stealing a water metre from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

A Tema magistrate court convicted Richard Afful guilty.

He was accused of theft and found guilty on January 4, 2024.

He grabbed the water meter from Tema’s Community 11.

Chinese citizen serving jail sentence for theft escapes from Nsawam Prison

An officer from the prison service confirmed the escape to Citi News on Monday, saying they had some clues that might lead to the fugitive's re-arrest.

A Chinese national who was serving a one-year term at Nsawam Prison for stealing and other major crimes has reportedly escaped.

The escape occurred after the suspect allegedly pretended to be unwell and was sent to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, he was apprehended in Tema and detained before being transported to the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.

The jail officer assigned to follow him has been detained by the service pending an inquiry into the event.

Akyemansa: Police search for assailants of Chinese miners at Akyem Akokoaso

Police officers who visited the site to photograph the scene to begin their investigations are working with the mining company's management to capture the perpetrators.

The Akyemansa District Police Command is searching for a group of armed men who ambushed some Chinese miners and robbed them of GHC10,000,000 and two gold bars in Akyem Akokoaso, a farming village in Ofoase Ayirebi.

According to Citi News sources, the armed men assaulted the Jia Xin Industrial Mining Company Limited facility on Friday at about 7 p.m., shooting two Chinese miners in the leg and testicles before fleeing with the cash and gold bars.

The two Chinese miners who were brought to the hospital were treated promptly and are in stable condition.
