Lydia was rushed to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. "I was around Abrem station when these two ladies came to board the tricycle," said the tricycle driver, Alhassan Seidu Abubakar, to Citi News. As soon as I took off, I heard a huge noise. A terrible occurrence occurred at Kenyase-Abrem, in the Ashanti Region, when a 22-year-old lady was killed by a bullet while going home from the December 31st watch night service.

[Firecracker] I thought that was a knockout. I had no idea it was a gunshot. But I felt heat on my neck, so I got off the trike and checked my back, where I saw the lady had been shot.”

“I became terrified and screamed.” That’s when the other lady realised something was wrong with her sister. I couldn’t do much at the time, so a guy helped me lift them into his car, and we drove her to the local hospital, but they thought it was an emergency, so they directed us to Manhyia Hospital. However, when we arrived, they also advised us to transfer her to Okomfo Anokye Hospital, where the physicians verified her death.”

“We heard that the person responsible for this is a priest, and this is not the first time he has shot someone,” Lydia’s uncle, Yaw Ghaatoun, revealed. Ours is the third in the series.”

Mr. Ghaatoun further stated that the accused culprit has been detained for two weeks.

Kwame Bohitana, the deceased’s bereaved father, expressed tremendous sadness and said that the court had ordered the family to return in two weeks.

In the aftermath of this horrific tragedy, the bereaved family members are now pleading with authorities for justice.
