He stated that on February 12, 2024, at around 18:30 hours, the criminal approached the victim at his residence on the premises of his employment and demanded his money. However, the complainant said that he did not have cash with him since his money was in his mobile money wallet. He stated that the victim claimed it would be impossible to withdraw cash because the mobile money agents in the vicinity had already closed. The victim then told the convict to return in the morning for his money, which irritated him and resulted in a heated dispute between the two.

Abdulai Sanusi, a 27-year-old scrap trader and herbal medicine peddler, was sentenced to three years in jail with hard labour by Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ after stabbing a security guard with a pair of scissors.

Mrs Klorkor Okai-Mills presided over the court, which sentenced Sanusi, a Nigerien after he pleaded guilty to inflicting hurt on the victim, Mr Vincent Akpotaka, on his left ribs and back.

The prosecution, Inspector Jacob Kuubal, presented the facts of the case, stating that the victim was a security guard at Sentuo Oil Refinery in the Tema Industrial Area who, in January 2024, purchased some of Sanusi’s medicine on credit, promising to pay later.

It escalated into a brawl, during which Sanusi took the scissors he had hidden and stabbed the complainant beneath his left rib and back, resulting in serious cuts.

The prosecution stated that Sanusi fled after seeing the victim bleeding heavily from the deep-cut wounds he inflicted on him, but he was tracked by witnesses, detained, and taken to the Lube Oil Police Station, where he was cautioned.

He stated that a police medical report was provided to the complainant to go to any government hospital for treatment, saying that on February 18, 2024, at around 20:00 hours, surgery was performed on him at Tema General Hospital, where he was getting care.

He stated that the police had previously visited the victim at the hospital and interacted with Dr Iddi Sumaili on February 14, 2024, at approximately 09:15 a.m., who explained that the omentum tissue under the skin of the complainant’s stomach was out and visible in the wound, requiring surgery to determine whether any of his internal organs had been damaged.

According to Inspector Kuubal, the doctor discovered during the procedure that the victim had internal bleeding between the abdominal and pelvic cavities (hemoperitoneum), as well as a ruptured stomach lining.

He said that the victim, who had been imprisoned in the hospital’s social welfare department due to his inability to pay his medical fees, had now been released when some generous people contributed and covered the bill.

A Ghanaian couple living in the United States has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of their five-year-old boy on Long Island, nearly three years after the horrific incident occurred.

Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae were convicted of viciously assaulting the youngster with “at least four different instruments” over three days in 2021, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

The prosecutors showed that neither Owusu, the biological mother, nor Addae phoned 911 or sought medical attention as the boy’s condition deteriorated.
