Chinese citizen serving jail sentence for theft escapes from Nsawam Prison

An officer from the prison service confirmed the escape to Citi News on Monday, saying they had some clues that might lead to the fugitive's re-arrest.

A Chinese national who was serving a one-year term at Nsawam Prison for stealing and other major crimes has reportedly escaped.

The escape occurred after the suspect allegedly pretended to be unwell and was sent to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, he was apprehended in Tema and detained before being transported to the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.

The jail officer assigned to follow him has been detained by the service pending an inquiry into the event.

Akyemansa: Police search for assailants of Chinese miners at Akyem Akokoaso

Police officers who visited the site to photograph the scene to begin their investigations are working with the mining company's management to capture the perpetrators.

The Akyemansa District Police Command is searching for a group of armed men who ambushed some Chinese miners and robbed them of GHC10,000,000 and two gold bars in Akyem Akokoaso, a farming village in Ofoase Ayirebi.

According to Citi News sources, the armed men assaulted the Jia Xin Industrial Mining Company Limited facility on Friday at about 7 p.m., shooting two Chinese miners in the leg and testicles before fleeing with the cash and gold bars.

The two Chinese miners who were brought to the hospital were treated promptly and are in stable condition.

Police officers who visited the site to photograph the scene to begin their investigations are working with the mining company’s management to capture the perpetrators.

Police arrest 46 additional people in connection with attacks at Kwahu Bepong

In a statement, the police announced that security, law, and order had been restored in the Bepong township, and that all culprits will face punishment in court. According to the police, 40 of the individuals who have so far been identified as having played various roles in the assaults and are related to existing evidence have been held to aid in the investigation.

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has detained forty-six additional people in connection with the attacks on the Bepong Chiefs Palace and several police personnel in Kwahu Bepong, Eastern Region.

The Police Service has already detained 25 people in connection with the incident.

The arrests raise the total number of suspects detained thus far to seventy-one (71).

On February 4, 2024, the suspects and others on the run stormed the Bepong Chiefs Palace, injuring seven individuals, including five police officers.

In a statement, the police announced that security, law, and order had been restored in the Bepong township and that all culprits would face punishment in court.

Two persons were killed after reportedly being struck by stray gunfire fired by police during the melee to disperse the savage crowd.

According to reports, the incident occurred inside the chief’s palace, when police were attempting to rescue an alleged suspect suspected of murdering two persons in Adwumasu, a rural hamlet in the Kwahu South Municipality.

According to reports, the suspect, 23-year-old Kwasi Tenkorang, is an ex-convict who raped and killed Akua Kyerewaa, 45.

Kwasi Antwi, the victim’s 65-year-old brother who attempted to save his sister during the incident, was also hit in the head with a metal rod and died instantly.

An eyewitness named Frederick, who was on his way to the farm, nearly averted death after witnessing the incident and being pursued by the suspect.

The culprit, who had been on the run since the event, was apprehended on Sunday, February 4th, and transported to the chief’s palace.

Members of the community who learnt of the detention stormed the palace, demanding his immediate release and immediate justice, but the police intervened.

When the police stopped them from lynching the culprit, they assaulted them, flinging stones and other objects.
