John Alberto Leguizamo was born in Bogotá, Colombia, on July 22, 1964. His family relocated to New York City when he was four years old. Alberto and Luz Leguizamo are his parents. Leguizamo began his career as a stand-up comedian in various New York City nightclubs in 1984. The following year, Leguizamo was cast as Madonna’s boyfriend in the video for her early hit “Borderline.” In 1986, he made his television debut in a small role on the hit show “Miami Vice.” Throughout the rest of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, he had a number of roles in television and film. One of Leguizamo’s most memorable roles was in the Brian DePalma crime drama “Carlito’s Way,” released in 1993.
