Luis Fonsi was born in 1978 in San Juan, Puerto Rico as Luis Alfonso Rodrguez López-Cepero. He is the oldest child of Delia and Alfonso, with Jean and Tatiana as his two younger siblings. Fonsi attended Dr Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida, where he was a Big Guys singing group member. Fonsi received a full scholarship at Florida State University in 1995. While there, He sang in the school choir and with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. After skipping out to pursue his music career, Fonsi was offered a recording contract by Universal Music Latin.

In 2003, Fonsi began dating actress Adamari López. The couple married in a religious ceremony in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, in 2006, in front of celebrities such as Joey Fatone and Carlos Ponce. The couple split in 2010. Fonsi afterwards began dating Spanish model Gueda López, whom he married in 2014. They have a daughter and a boy together. Fonsi has been an ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 2008.
