Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that taxation on gambling will be reconsidered under his next administration.
In March of this year, Parliament enacted legislation to tax sports betting and lotteries.
This behaviour has elicited widespread disapproval from clients, particularly the thronging teenagers.
As a levy, the government deducts 10% of all gains from sports betting and lotteries.
Speaking to wood vendors in Techiman on Monday 20 November as part of his Building Ghana trip, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated, “It is not just about taxes on betting, when we come to government, we will look at the number of taxes imposed.”
In an attempt to reclaim political power, the former President has been touring the three Bono regions on a building Ghana together tour.
He has been meeting with craftsmen, market women, students, and traditional rulers to get their thoughts on how to frame the people’s manifesto.
