The park is a prominent memorial to Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and also serves as the last resting place for his mortal remains as well as those of his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, located on the former polo grounds in Accra, where Ghana’s independence was declared, has been a popular attraction site since its construction in 1992, garnering over 98,000 people yearly, making it one of Ghana’s top ten most visited locations.

The park has received no substantial modifications over the years, resulting in concerns with numerous amenities such as faulty fountains, leaky roofs in the museum, and the awful status of the washrooms and VIP lounge.

Recognising the significance of tourism in the country’s growth, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo named tourism a crucial component in social advancement in 2018 and won a $40 million loan from the World Bank to improve the tourism environment and create sites and destinations.

With these improvements, the park is ready to provide a better and more memorable experience to tourists and history aficionados from across the world.
