The police have apprehended two individuals for robbery planning.

The suspects, Adams Kwame and Abubakari Sharif, as well as two others who are still on the run, were apprehended on Thursday, September 14 at the Tweapease Police checkpoint while attempting to flee from authorities during a regular stop-and-search operation.

They recovered a pump-action gun, two live BB rounds, two machetes, and a catapult.

Preliminary investigations have shown that the suspects had the exhibit goods in their possession while attempting to commit robbery.

They are presently in prison and will appear in court, while attempts are being made to apprehend the remaining two.

In the Volta Region, personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service’s Nyive Sector Command confiscated 80 slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The reported Indian hemp was discovered in the Ho Municipality of Atikpui, which borders Togo.

According to Abdullah Zakaria, Sector Commander for Nyive and Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, the goods were abandoned at a nearby clinic in Atikpui when the suspects learned the authorities were chasing them.

He stated that the Immigration Service will not stop until all illegal operations in the region are eradicated.

ACI Zakaria, on the other hand, urged homeowners and the general public to work with the Service to combat criminal activity in the neighbourhood and throughout the region.

The acting Volta Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Noah Ahomka Yeboah, who also seized the opportunity to tour other sector commanders in the area, praised the personnel at Nyive for their efforts over the years and encouraged them to do more.

ACI Yeboah stated that his guys are on top of their jobs and have always been vigilant and quick to respond to such incidents, for which they should be applauded.

“My men here at Nyive and other sectors of the service are really doing well and need to be commended for always being ready to extend services to the nation,” he said.

ACI Yeboah went on to say that criminal acts of this nature must be completely eradicated or minimised, which can only be accomplished with the public’s assistance.

He stated that everyone must modify their attitude towards the subject of unlawful possession of hard drugs or substances.

He reassured the public of the Service’s commitment to combating the region’s criminal activities.

An Adentan Circuit Court sentenced two men to ten years in jail each for threatening a woman with a cutlass and robbing her of her GH650 mobile phone.

Stephen Kobi, a driver’s buddy, and Bernard Nyarko alias Bible pled guilty to robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Kobi informed the court that once his commercial vehicle was taken away from him, he embarked on a robbery spree.

In Nyarko’s case, he argued that his acts were motivated by economic difficulties and that his fiancée was also pregnant, thus the court should forgive him.

Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah presided over the court, which found that their answers supported their guilt and hence convicted them on that basis.

It condemned Kobi and Nyarko to five years in jail on conspiracy charges and ten years on robbery charges.

The judge ordered that the sentences be served concurrently.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, had previously requested that a deterrent term be imposed since the region had become a robbery hotspot.

The court ordered the Ghana Police Service to strengthen security in the region in order to reduce the spike in crime.

The complainant, Belinda Addae, is a housekeeper at the Bani Hostel at the University of Ghana, Legon, according to the prosecution.

According to the prosecutor, the two prisoners met and decided to commit a crime in Legon on July 25, 2023, at about 0730 hours.

Kobi and Nyarko then walked to a location outside the Presbyterian Boys High School’s main gate and hid in the bush, watching passersby pass by.
