‘Winning a title with Bayern Munich is not a great achievement’ – Michael Owen tells Harry Kane

'Winning a title with Bayern Munich is not a great achievement' - Michael Owen tells Harry Kane

Former Premier League great Michael Owen has advised Harry Kane to consider other alternatives for winning championships than joining Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old is eager to join the German giants, with a deal between Tottenham Hotspurs and Bayern Munich nearing completion.

According to The Athletic, sources in Germany have stated that Tottenham has accepted a contract from the Bundesliga club for more than €100 million (£86.4 million, $110 million), indicating that the offer has been approved by the Premier League squad.

Kane is accountable for the following actions and must now decide whether or not to join Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old had declared his wish to resolve his future before to Sunday’s season-opening encounter between Tottenham and Brentford.

However, Owen, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2001, believes Kane is making a mistake by joining the Bavarians.

Despite his exceptional goal-scoring ability, Kane has yet to win a major trophy in his career, which is said to be the main reason for his readiness to transfer abroad.

Meanwhile, Owen advises his compatriot to stay in the Premier League and aim to become the competition’s all-time leading scorer, rather than joining Real Madrid.

“I know @FCBayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were
@HKane I’d stay put. There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them. @realmadrid I would understand. Or one or two top @premierleague clubs for that matter. Becoming the all-time Premier League top goal scorer @SpursOfficial is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by 1 team,” he wrote on Twitter.

Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season for Spurs, who finished outside the top four, bringing his career total to 213 goals, just 47 fewer than Alan Shearer, the competition’s all-time leading scorer.
