Ernest Nuamah has been announced as the new player for Lyon

Ernest Nuamah of Ghana has officially finalised his transfer from FC Nordsjaelland to Olympique Lyon in France.

On Wednesday, August 30, the club revealed the historic signing, bringing an end to a productive term with the Danish giants as he arrives on loan with an obligation to be signed permanently by the former French champions.

“Olympique Lyonnais is delighted with the signing of Ernest Nuamah, considered one of the future great hopes in his position, who will be the second Ghanaian footballer in the history of the club after Michaël Essien, his assistant coach at Nordsjaelland, between 2003 and 2005,” Lyon stated in an official statement.

This comes after FC Norsdjaelland released a video declaring his departure following a great stint in the Danish Super League.

The 19-year-old’s transfer has been anticipated in recent days following his good medicals earlier this week, with personal details previously agreed upon.

Nuamah follows in the footsteps of his countrymen Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana, who all departed FC Nordsjaelland following stellar seasons after joining from the renowned Right to Dream Academy.

Nuamah was an outstanding figure for the Danish heavyweights, scoring 12 goals and assisting four times, earning him the Young Player of the Year award from a panel of experts, the Spring Best Player award from Superliga head coaches, and the Player of the Year award from his fellow Superliga players.

Nuamah has also been nominated as one of 100 nominees for the Golden Boy Award in 2023.

Before joining Lyon, the teenage attacker continued where he left off last season, scoring five goals and giving one assist in six games for the Tigers.

He has not only performed admirably for his club, but he has also established himself on the world stage. Nuamah made his Black Stars debut in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar in June. He also played an important role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2023 U-23 AFCON in Morocco as a member of the Black Meteors squad.

His outstanding performances originally drew the attention of numerous European teams, including PSG, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Ajax Amsterdam, who saw him as a long-term successor for Kudus, who joined West Ham last weekend.
