Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticised the Akufo-Addo government for the country’s present regress and problems.
Despite a modest drop in inflation, the government appears to be battling to turn the economy around in the face of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout, the cedi’s wild slide against major trade currencies, and a growing unemployment rate, among other things.
Addressing a rally in Wenchi as part of his Building Ghana Tour, John Dramani Mahama blamed Ghana’s current status on the NPP administration’s inadequate leadership.
He believes that the current government has stifled the nation’s progress, notably by halting existing development initiatives launched by the previous Mahama administration.
“People thought there was development and prosperity here, and now we have lost everything. The nation is pitiful, the country is facing hardships, and the economy is bad.”
“I thought they would continue the good work I left behind, but the nation seems to be retrogressing in development,” Mahama complained.
Mr. Mahama recalled Ghana’s status as the “Black Star of Africa” after being the first African country to achieve independence, and urged the youth to remain optimistic about the promise of a better Ghana, as the NDC is the greatest option for improved development and progress.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate launched the Building Ghana Tour in the Bono Region on November 17.
