GPL: Relegated King Faisal loses appeal to remain in premier division

The ambitions of King Faisal Football Club to reclaim their place in the Ghana Premier League have hit a snag.

The Ghana Football Association’s Appeals Committee has dismissed a protest submitted by the Kumasi-based club against Tamale City.

Alhaji Grusah’s squad alleged that City used an ineligible player, Isaac Mensah, who was also registered as Jireh Kojo Nissi.

Nonetheless, the GFA Appeals Committee confirmed the GFA Disciplinary Committee’s prior ruling, which dismissed the protest.

“The Appeals Committee has also dismissed King Faisal FC’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee decision in their protest case against Tamale City FC”, a statement from the GFA read.

“Affirming the Disciplinary Committee’s decision, the Appeals Committee charged the GFA Prosecutor to investigate the registration of player Jireh Kojo Nissi and prosecute all guilty parties.

The Appeals Committee also ruled that the 2021/22 Division One League season registration of Jireh Kojo Nissi should be expunged from the records of the GFA since it was later in time to the registration of Isaac Mensah.”

Following a four-year stint in the premier flight, King Faisal will play in the flight One League Zone 2 next season.

The club’s most recent relegation occurred during the 2013/2014 Ghana Premier League season.
