Hearts of Oak are likely to hire Dutch trainer Martin Koopman to replace the vacant role of head coach.
After the resignation of Serbian coach Slavko Matic last season, the Accra-based squad has had difficulties in their search for a permanent coach in recent weeks.
Despite approaches from Nigerian coach Paul Aigbogun and Tunisian coach Khalil Abid, neither contract for the 2000 CAF Champions League champions came to completion.
According to Africa-foot.com, Hearts of Oak has chosen Dutch coach Martin Koopman to take over as manager. Koopman, a former Go Ahead Eagles, FC Twente, and Cambuur defender, is due to travel to Ghana on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, to finalise his appointment ahead of the next 2023/24 season, which begins next month.
Rene Hiddink, the club’s Technical Director, is said to have proposed Koopman for the position. Koopman’s extensive managerial career includes roles as a youth team and assistant coach at Go Ahead Eagles and Cambuur, as well as positions as an assistant coach at FC Groningen, FC Den Bosch, Veendam, AS Vita Club, Saudi Arabia, Shenyang Ginde, Roda JC, RKC Waalwijk, Aruba, and, most recently, the Maldives all in assistant coaching roles.
