Crystal Palace lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspurs in a crucial London derby on Friday night, with Ghana striker Jordan Ayew on target.
The attacker, who started the season in spectacular form and was named the club’s Player of the Month for August, scored in stoppage time to pull one back for his team in a defeat.
Despite enjoying the most of possession in the first half, Tottenham struggled to break the deadlock, with Roy Hodgson’s side looking promising when they did get control of the ball.
However, it was Joel Ward’s error in putting the ball in his own net that gave Postecoglou’s team a vital lead in the 58th minute.
Son Heung Min, who has established himself as the team’s most important player, doubled the lead in the 66th minute with a smooth finish.
Crystal Palace, trying to avoid back-to-back defeats after losing to Newcastle United, fought hard but had to settle for a consolation goal in injury time.
Ayew got a well-executed ball from Joachim Anderson, controlled it beautifully, and fired it into the top right corner to score the Eagles’ first Premier League goal of the season.
Palace will now turn their attention to their upcoming match against Burnley at Turf Moore.
