Kurt Okraku pledges GHC 50k support to clubs to establish youth teams

Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has given Ghanaian clubs a staggering GHC 50,000 to encourage them to form young teams.

The statement is intended to offset the country’s recent decrease in juvenile football, which has resulted in underwhelming results by national young teams.

Okraku stated during his speech at the GFA 29th Ordinary Congress on Monday, July 10, at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) that while his organisation will allocate the said amount, half of it will be given to clubs that give such players significant playing time.

“Each Ghana Premier League club is to be supported with GHC 50,000 for setting up a youth team. Clubs would also get 25,000 when two of their youth players team players feature in more than 15 games,” he said.

Kurt Okraku’s first tenure is set to end in October, as he seeks re-election after completing his first four-year term.

Other football executives anticipated to run include former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president George Afriyie, former Regional Football Association (RFA) for Western Region Kojo Yankah, and Berekum Chelsea’s Bernard Amofah Jantuah.
