Fishermen in Takoradi, a coastal area in the Western region, are terrified after a canoe with nine crew members went missing on the high waves.
The crew members left on June 27, 2023, but have yet to return.
The fisherman, according to sources, lost communication with their colleagues immediately after setting sail. All nine crew members have not been discovered, causing concern among their families and friends.
The boat’s owner, Kwame Tawiah, told the media that the crew members left the Ngyirasia fishing harbour for the Half Assini region but had not returned.
He also stated that they have requested assistance from the authorities and are hopeful that the missing crew will return shortly.
Mr Tawiah also said that the missing crew contacted him briefly on July 7 to say they were all alive but had no gasoline in the boat. However, their phone switched off instantly, and their present whereabouts is unclear.
Six more boats have been dispatched to search for the missing crew members, and MTN has been alerted to assist in tracking their last known whereabouts.
The situation is still tense, and the hunt for the missing fisherman is still ongoing.
