During a recent visit, some market ladies in Dome showed their displeasure with incumbent Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo by booing and jeering her.
As she attempted to reconnect with her constituents after abandoning her constituency and parliamentary duties for almost a year, the MP met tremendous opposition.
Adwoa Safo may be seen in a widely shared social media video attempting to interact with market ladies by extending a warm handshake.
However, the noises of people hooting, yelling, and applauding to show their displeasure drown out her efforts.
“Adwoa Safo, we want change!” cry several of the market ladies. with the words “Adwoa Safo, we don’t want you again!”
The former Minister for Gender and Social Protection, on the other hand, disregarded the boos and went about her business, connecting with other vendors who had extended their hands to meet her.
Adwoa Safo’s absence from parliament in 2022 sparked great debate. She departed the country in November 2021 and repeatedly failed to appear before the Privileges Committee when called to explain her absence.
The committee finally recommended that her seat be declared empty, but the Speaker of the House determined that the report was not final and that it needed to be submitted to the whole House for a vote.
This sparked debate inside the legislative ranks.
Adwoa Safo recently apologised to the President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for causing issues during her absence from parliamentary responsibilities.
